The driver of the ambulance from TCMK, whose negligence caused the death of a patient in an accident, will be prosecuted.

      The driver of the ambulance from the TCMK, whose negligence led to the death of a patient in an accident, will be tried on September 1, 2026. In Serov, the driver of the healthcare institution will face court for violating traffic rules that resulted in the death of a passenger—a patient he was transporting to the State Autonomous Healthcare Institution "Serov City Hospital." The indictment against the local resident born in 1958 has been approved by the Serov City Prosecutor's Office, the regional supervisory authority reported on Tuesday.

      The accident occurred on May 20 of this year between 2:30 and 3:00 AM.

      According to the investigation, the man, being the driver of the specialized vehicle of the State Autonomous Healthcare Institution of the Sverdlovsk Region "Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine," was performing a routine sanitary task of transporting a patient from one medical facility to another while driving a technically sound "UAZ" vehicle.

      The ambulance was moving with its flashing light on without a special sound signal along Kakvinskaya Street in Serov (the 351st kilometer of the "Yekaterinburg - Nizhny Tagil - Serov" highway).

      In violation of the requirements of the traffic rules of the Russian Federation, the driver, being in a fatigued state, failed to ensure proper control over the movement of his vehicle, resulting in its deviation and leaving the roadway onto the right shoulder, subsequently colliding with a concrete lighting support.

      As a result of the collision, the passenger of the vehicle—a patient born in 1959—sustained a combined injury to the head, torso, and limbs, which led to her death. The charges were filed under part 3 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle, resulting in the accidental death of a person). The criminal case has been sent to the Serov District Court for substantive consideration.

      According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, the driver was a resident of Krasnoturinsk. With 47 years of driving experience, he has never been held accountable for violating traffic rules, writes "KP-Yekaterinburg."

      As previously reported, the patient was transported by air ambulance from Serov for treatment in Yekaterinburg due to a stroke. After the tragedy, the relatives of the deceased woman told the E1.RU portal that they were unaware of her transportation back to Serov and do not understand why she needed to be driven in a serious condition, especially at night.
