A travel agency in Yekaterinburg lost 400,000 rubles after responding to an email.
Today at 12:12 in Yekaterinburg, a travel agency received an email from a large company, responded to it, and a few weeks later lost 400,000 rubles.
— An email was received from an organization called "Velesstroy" requesting a commercial offer. Such an organization exists, but their email address ends with .com, whereas the fake one ends with .ru. Everything was written very professionally; no one suspected anything — told a representative of the affected company to E1.RU.
The indicated phone number was active, and a certain Boris Romanov answered calls and questions.
— We provided them with a commercial proposal — they sent the next email. It stated that our company had been selected for further cooperation and that work through electronic document flow was temporarily suspended on the advice of security service — added the Yekaterinburg resident.
The scammers provided a company's card. The parties exchanged scans of a service contract, under which the travel agency booked a hotel for company employees in one of the exotic countries for 10 days with meals. Payment was promised to be sent later.
The travel agency paid 400,000 rubles from its funds to the hotel; the guests checked in, relaxed, and then the scammers stopped answering. When the residents of Yekaterinburg tried to contact "Velesstroy," it turned out they were entirely unaware of the situation.
— To stay protected, it was enough just to call the organization directly after the first email and verify the email address. But we did not expect deception. The scammers conducted a very professional dialogue and knew the situation — added the travel company's representative.
The victim filed a report with police department No. 15 regarding the fraud. The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Yekaterinburg has not yet commented on this situation.
Earlier, we reported that a guy from Kazakhstan, who traveled around Russia, was detained in Yekaterinburg. He was collecting money for scammers.
