Shykhlynski was on the territory of the Azerbaijani embassy in Moscow, where law enforcement could not access him. However, after negotiations, he voluntarily came out, surrendered to authorities, and was transported to Yekaterinburg, where he participated in investigative actions. He was placed in a pre-trial detention center, reports E1.RU.
According to preliminary information, Shahin Shykhlynski is accused of involvement in an attempt on the life of Fehruz Shirinov and violence against a government official.
Shykhlynski's lawyer told E1.RU that his client insists on his innocence and intends to appeal the arrest decision.
It is recall that law enforcement detained Shahin Shykhlynski and his son Muttvalli, who works as his father's driver and lawyer, on July 1 near the "Baku Plaza" shopping center in Yekaterinburg. Muttvalli was behind the wheel of a Mercedes. During the detention, the driver reversed, causing one of the special forces officers to be thrown to the ground through the car door. According to an initial version, Shahin ordered his son to drive.
The operation to detain members of the Shykhlynski family was preceded by the arrests of a dozen members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg suspected of murders. During a raid, two suspects died. This caused a serious crisis in Azerbaijani-Russian relations.
After questioning at the Investigative Committee, both Shykhlynski were released. However, on July 16, the Lenin District Court of Yekaterinburg remanded Muttvalli Shykhlynski into custody. The elder Shykhlynski has taken refuge at the Azerbaijani embassy in Moscow.
