Scammers continue to test a new scheme on Yekaterinburg residents.
Yekaterinburg residents continue to be targeted by a scam hiding behind the pretext of replacing intercoms. One city resident nearly became a victim of the fraudsters.
"I got a call from a regular number, not via a messenger. A man answered, said that the intercom in the building would be replaced on Saturday, and that they were now compiling lists of residents so everyone would receive keys; he asked how many I needed," a woman from the Urals told KP-Yekaterinburg.
The woman rents an apartment, so she told the worker to call the owner directly.
"They told me they had already spoken to him and that he had supposedly given them my number," the Yekaterinburg resident added.
The scammer said the intercom company was switching to a new digital system — everyone would have their own account and number in the app. To do this you need to register in the system, and a code will be sent that must be provided.
"The code arrived, not from a mobile number. An SMS came from 'AO_MVK' — supposedly their system. It was labeled as a code to complete registration. I suspected something was wrong and hung up," the woman added.
Earlier we reported that phone scammers had devised another method of deceiving Russians.
