In Sverdlovsk Oblast, the early gubernatorial election began quietly, like an autumn morning.
2,467 polling stations (2,431 permanent and 36 temporary) opened exactly at 8:00 a.m., the EAN agency reports.
KOIB electronic ballot-counting machines are being used at the 500 largest polling stations in Yekaterinburg.
For pre-registered voters, voting will take place online. Some 253,000 of Sverdlovsk’s 3.3 million voters registered to participate in remote electronic voting (DEG).
Voting will take place on September 12, 13 and 14. Polling stations will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Remote electronic voting on the portal vybory.gov.ru is being conducted from 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, the Sverdlovsk Electoral Commission reminded.
The previous gubernatorial election in Sverdlovsk Oblast took place in September 2022. As a result, the incumbent governor at the time, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, was re-elected to a new term; he was unexpectedly removed from office early this spring.
Kuyvashev’s departure was preceded by a series of high-profile corruption criminal cases brought against his regional ministers.
