
In Yekaterinburg, a Lada hit a 15-year-old violator on a rental electric scooter.
The crossing of a signal-controlled intersection on a red light by a minor on an electric scooter was the cause of a traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday, September 10 at 22:10 in the area of the building at 1 Nikolay Ostrovsky Street, the State Traffic Inspectorate of Russia for Yekaterinburg reported.
The 15-year-old boy riding a rental electric scooter crossed the intersection on a red light and was struck by a Lada driven by a 20-year-old local resident. The driver applied emergency braking, but could not avoid the collision. The teenager was taken to hospital with head contusions.
The Lada driver explained that he was driving along Moskovskaya Street toward Aviatsionnaya Street when, while crossing the intersection with Nikolay Ostrovsky Street, a teenager unexpectedly drove out from the right in front of his vehicle on a red light.
It was established that the young man has two years of driving experience and during that time has been subjected to administrative penalties for traffic violations 15 times.
An administrative investigation has been opened in connection with the accident under part 2 of article 12.24 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (Violation of traffic rules or rules for the operation of a vehicle that resulted in moderately severe harm to the victim’s health — note Uralweb). An administrative case has also been drawn up against the driver under part 1 of article 12.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (operation of a vehicle not registered in the prescribed manner).
The materials will also be sent to the juvenile affairs unit of the Leninsky District of Yekaterinburg. Police officers will conduct an inspection of the educational institution where the minor studies to assess whether children are being taught safe road behavior skills.
