A doctor predicted a month-long decline in cases of acute respiratory viral infections in Yekaterinburg.
The rise in ARVI cases observed in Yekaterinburg is primarily linked to the start of the school year and the return of vacationers, and will soon subside.
This opinion was shared with URA.RU by Alexander Kharitonov, the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Sverdlovsk Region’s health ministry.
The increase in cases is, first, related to the formation of educational groups and migration (vacation travel), and second, to temperature fluctuations during the day when people do not dress for the weather.
“When the human body begins to get cold, it becomes a very good breeding ground for all viruses, first and foremost acute respiratory infections,” the infectious disease specialist explained.
According to Kharitonov’s forecast, incidence will decline as early as next week or in the first week of October. The real seasonal upsurge will begin only in late October–early November.
It is worth noting that residents of Yekaterinburg are complaining about queues at the emergency care offices of Central City Hospital No. 7. One URA.RU reader said there were 25 people ahead of her and she spent two hours waiting for her turn. “When I went home, there were another twenty people after me.”
