Residents of a Sverdlovsk settlement were frightened by an earthquake.
The international monitoring system recorded an earthquake in the Irbit district. According to Kazakhstan's National Center, tremors of magnitude 3.8 were felt during the night of September 17 near the settlement of Lopatkovo. Local residents, however, learned about it exclusively from the news.
"There were no tremors. Now everyone is forwarding these messages to each other, but nobody felt anything," a local resident told the portal E1.RU.
Irbit's unified dispatch service said that no reports of an earthquake had been received. Specialists at the Ural laboratory where the seismic station operates also refute the information.
"Nothing was recorded. Journalists are publishing information based on Kazakhstan's data. But there are often errors there. Discrepancies occur between our data and their information. Their margin of error can be plus or minus 100 kilometers, sometimes more. Their system is automated and may malfunction," said the head of the geophysical laboratory-observatory "Arti," Oleg Kusonsky.
Earlier, a landslide occurred in the Ural city.
