RMK opened Russia's first top-level padel arena in Yekaterinburg.
The RMK padel arena has opened in Yekaterinburg. The former ice palace, the CRC "Uralets", is already hard to recognize, writes E1.RU.
World stars of the sport, which is rapidly gaining popularity in Russia, arrived in the Ural capital to take part in the show matches at the ceremonial opening of the RMK padel arena, held on September 19.
The sports facility, which includes six courts, was built exclusively for padel, E1.RU writes in a long report from its opening.
Russian Copper Company is a promoter of the sport in the Urals. The RMK padel arena houses the RCC Padel club and the RMK Padel Academy, where anyone who wishes will be able to train year-round. A children's school will also open enrollment in October.
Organizers say padel is easy to learn, does not require special physical conditioning or expensive equipment, so both children and elderly people can play it. It combines elements of tennis and squash.
The opening ceremony of the padel arena was attended by the governor of Sverdlovsk Region, Denis Pasler, and the head of Yekaterinburg, Alexey Orlov.
"It's a wonderful arena — the first and so far the only facility in the country for playing padel at this level, quality and scale," the Sverdlovsk Region Department of Information Policy quotes Denis Pasler as saying.
