The female motorcyclist who was hit by an Isuzu driver and nearly lost her leg was discharged from the hospital.
Biker Nadezhda Gugumberidze, who suffered severe injuries on August 1 in a crash with an Isuzu SUV near the Europe–Asia stele, has been discharged from hospital, KP‑Yekaterinburg reports.
As relatives of the 43‑year‑old woman told KP‑Yekaterinburg, she has been at home since September 23. But in a month she is due to be hospitalized again. Her pelvic bones are still in an external fixator, a source told the publication.
“I don’t walk now. At most I can stand with a walker,” Nadezhda told KP‑Yekaterinburg, confirming the need for further surgeries.
A criminal case has been opened against the Isuzu driver, Alexey Grom, under part 1 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Violation of traffic rules and the operation of vehicles resulting in the negligent infliction of grievous bodily harm). The Investigative Committee is conducting the investigation.
Grom said the motorcyclist braked sharply, but Nadezhda’s relatives believe he hit her intentionally. The Isuzu SUV struck Nadezhda’s motorcycle from behind after she moved into the right lane, overtook the Isuzu and returned to the left lane, a source previously told the outlet. The woman was thrown into the guardrail. She suffered an open fracture of the leg, broken ribs, and a traumatic brain injury. Doctors were forced to remove her spleen, but they managed to save her intestines and the injured leg.
