A new tram route is planned to be launched in the Akademichesky district of Yekaterinburg at the beginning of next year. URA.RU was told by the mayor’s office that this will be made possible by the delivery of modern three-section "Kastor" trams from the Chelyabinsk Region.
— This year the city purchased 15 low-floor three-section cars from the Ust-Katav Carriage Works. Some of the vehicles have already arrived in Yekaterinburg; the remainder will be delivered by the end of the year. Once all the trams are available, they will be redistributed, and a decision will be made about opening a second route in Akademichesky, the administration explained.
By January 2026 the city will have 16 new "Kastors" at its disposal. Compared with older models they are more spacious and technologically advanced: equipped with climate control systems, modern ticket validators and USB ports. The tram first ran to Akadem at the end of 2023. It was route number one, which had been taken from residents of VIZ at the time.
