      In Yekaterinburg, a detainee from pretrial detention center SIZO‑1, Vyacheslav, suddenly died. The former law enforcement officer was supposed to be transferred to a colony for security personnel before the trial began.

      "He was remanded in custody pending trial and placed in the SIZO. We were waiting for the paperwork — he was a former officer. From the SIZO he was taken to the hospital attached to the colony. It's unclear what happened. They said he had been lying on his arm, then — that he was faking it. The lawyer was not allowed into the hospital. Then he got worse; they took him to the intensive care unit of the regional hospital on Sibirsky Trakt. He died there," a relative of the man told the E1.RU portal.

      The man died three weeks after being taken into the SIZO.

      The regional office of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Sverdlovsk Region confirmed Vyacheslav's death.

      "The accused died in the region's hospital. The death is not of a criminal nature; it is related to pre-existing illnesses," the agency said.

      Earlier we reported that an accomplice of the former policemen died before the gang was dismantled in Yekaterinburg.
