In Yekaterinburg, a new building suddenly began to undergo major repairs.
Residents of a large residential complex in the Botanichesky district have been suffering for several months because of a major overhaul of the pipes. In the building at 1 Yulius Fucik Street, hot and cold water are being turned off alternately.
People are especially outraged that the building is relatively new — it was commissioned in 2012. “Why replace new pipes with new ones?” apartment owners wonder.
The repairs started on July 1, and three months later work is being carried out in only one — the fourth — entrance. According to residents, the process is accompanied by numerous problems.
“The contractor removed the filters in the pumping station without warning. Now dirty water is coming from the taps,” residents told E1.RU.
Many have been unable to take a shower for a second week, and those who risked washing complain of skin irritation.
“Water is currently being supplied without filtration. People are outraged and demand that everything be returned to how it was. Recently repairs were finished in one entrance, but the water was simply forgotten — the workers went home. This is unbearable,” one resident said.
They say leaks have already appeared on the new pipes, and because of the way they were installed it is now impossible to open the shut-off valve of the fire main. This could complicate rescuers’ work in the event of a fire. Residents have filed complaints with the prosecutor’s office, the Ministry of Construction, the housing inspection, Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The director of the management company “Territory — Vostok,” Alexander Dyumaev, insists that the work is proceeding according to plan. He says they started with the fourth entrance because it is the largest, and that is why the process seems prolonged.
“We are completely replacing all pipelines. To ensure residents are not left without water, temporary bypass arrangements for hot and cold water supply have been set up. All stages are being overseen by the building council,” Dyumaev explained.
He noted that the building was designed with a closed hot water supply system: a heat exchanger heats the incoming cold water, so the system is more complex than in older buildings and requires a complete renewal.
“Unfortunately, the pipes used by the developers are not repairable. After an inspection it turned out the damage is widespread, so a major overhaul was necessary,” he added.
Dyumaev also commented on the situation with the filters: the old system was dismantled because it was obsolete, and a new filtration station has already been purchased but not yet connected.
“To install the new filters, the pipe installation must first be completed. There are no violations here,” he assured.
According to the management company director, the new pipes in the basement are being left exposed for now so possible leaks can be noticed and fixed promptly.
Work in the fourth entrance is planned to be completed by the beginning of November, and the entire building — by January 2026.
