Another tram line could be laid from Akademichesky to the center of Yekaterinburg.
A new street will be built between the Yugo-Zapadny (Southwest) and Akademichesky districts in Yekaterinburg, on which tram tracks will be laid, 66.RU reports. The project is included in Yekaterinburg’s master plan through 2045.
The new branch will begin at the roundabout on Akademika Parina Street, run through the 21st and 22nd blocks of Akademichesky and emerge onto Chkalov Street, which is currently separated by a forested area. To start service, the road section will be connected.
Trams will run straight to Yasnaya Street, then — through the area around the Fan-Fan shopping center — onto Bolshakova Street. The final section of the line will be extended to the intersection of Lunacharsky and Tveritin streets, where transfers can be made to routes running along Moskovskaya and 8 Marta.
The total length of the new tram line will be about 12.2 kilometers.
