It has become known where Sverdlovsk residents are going to spend the long New Year holidays.
New Year holidays are a traditional time for rest and travel. As early as mid-autumn many residents of the Urals begin planning routes and booking tours. "Moments" asked experts in the tourism industry which destinations are in greatest demand this winter.
According to Dmitry Dengholz, a travel agent at one of the city's companies, for most Russians the sea still remains the symbol of an ideal vacation.
"The Ural tourist in 90% of cases believes: if there is no sea at home, then there must be one while on vacation," he notes.
The head of another tour company, Anastasia Ermolayeva, adds that among the region's most popular destinations traditionally remain Egypt, the UAE and Turkey. The cost of trips depends on the level of comfort and tourists' expectations: for example, a tour to the Emirates can be found from 120,000 rubles.
However, this season Asia is attracting special attention. Eastern destinations are rapidly gaining popularity — travelers are choosing Vietnam (Nha Trang and Phu Quoc), Sri Lanka, Thailand (Phuket and Pattaya) and India.
Experts remind that New Year dates are traditionally the most expensive:
"If a tour begins on December 30 and lasts until January 9–10, that's the price peak. But with departures on December 25 or January 5 the cost falls by about 30% — a trend that is stable year after year," explains Dengholz.
China deserves separate attention, interest in which has noticeably grown since the introduction of a visa-free regime for Russians.
"China can be roughly divided into two types of vacations — beach (the island of Hainan) and sightseeing in Beijing, Shanghai and the Avatar Mountains. There are now direct flights from Yekaterinburg to Beijing, which allows combining several types of travel," Dengholz says.
Tour operators have already offered new routes. One of the most in demand is "Beijing and Shanghai": a New Year program for 7 nights departing on December 29. The cost of the tour for two is about 377,000–380,000 rubles, including flights and high-speed train transfers.
For those who want more impressions, extended itineraries have been developed — for example, "Beijing — Shanghai — Luoyang — Xi'an — Beijing." Such a tour starts on December 31 and will cost about 420,000 rubles for two. Despite the packed program, specialists believe the price is quite justified for the New Year period.
In addition, interest in Japan is growing. According to Anastasia Ermolayeva, more and more tourists are choosing cruises from Shanghai that include visits to Japan, Taiwan and other countries in the region.
