A unique medicine has been created from mushrooms that grow in Sverdlovsk Oblast.

Biologists at the Ural Federal University (UrFU) have discovered valuable properties of polypore fungi growing in the Sverdlovsk region and developed a healing ointment based on them. The preparation helps accelerate recovery even after deep burns and also promotes regeneration and rejuvenation of the skin. This was reported by the university’s scientific communications department.

      — In developing the ointment, scientists used two species of fungi — Ganoderma applanatum (artist’s conk) and Fomitopsis pinicola (red-belted conk), collected in the Ural forests. Studies showed that a lanolin-based product with extracts of these fungi speeds the healing of burn wounds, including third-degree burns, which usually result in scarring, while simultaneously reducing inflammation, the UrFU Telegram channel wrote.

During experiments, tissues treated with the fungal ointment showed an increased number of fibroblasts — cells responsible for regeneration, reducing inflammation, and maintaining skin elasticity. The most pronounced effect was shown by the ointment with the addition of Ganoderma applanatum: it promoted wound healing faster than the others.
