A procedural check is being conducted by the investigative department for the Chkalovsky District of the city of Yekaterinburg of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
As a result of the fire, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, October 26, a boy born in 2019 died and several other people were injured. It was preliminarily established that at the time of the incident five people were in the apartment — a woman born in 1996 and her four young children, born between 2019 and 2024. One of the children died, reportedly from poisoning by combustion products. The other residents of the apartment were taken to hospital.
"According to available information, the fire may have been caused by carelessness in handling a source of open flame. More precise causes of the incident are currently being established during fire-technical and forensic medical examinations," the regional Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee said.
Details of the incident are being established by investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia in cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police.
