An out-of-town police major was detained at VIZ with 35 kg of drugs.
A resident of Tolyatti, Major Yuri Shamshin, was detained in the Verkh-Isetsky district of Yekaterinburg with 30 kilograms of drugs. He worked in the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Samara Region in the anti-narcotics unit. A criminal case has been opened.
“He was caught by officers of the Sverdlovsk branch of the FSB. He could not explain why he had come to our region with a service weapon, and dressed in uniform to boot, which aroused suspicion. A large bag was found in his car containing more than 35 kilograms of mephedrone,” a source told the E1.RU portal.
A criminal case has been opened under the article “Attempted illegal distribution or shipment of narcotic substances in especially large amounts.” Shamshin faces up to 14 years in prison. The Verkh-Isetsky District Court has remanded Yuri in custody until November 18, 2025.
According to one version, Yuri and accomplices ran their own drug shop. This allowed them sometimes to detain stash couriers who worked for them. At the same time, the department showed incredible effectiveness in seizing drugs, far outpacing the others, E1.RU clarifies.
The leadership of the Samara Region police headquarters has ordered an internal inquiry.
“If the officer’s guilt is confirmed, he will be dismissed from the interior ministry on negative grounds and will be punished in accordance with the law,” the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Samara Region said.
The agency added that if the information is confirmed, the detained man’s superiors will be “subjected to strict disciplinary action up to and including removal from their positions.”
The Sverdlovsk Investigative Committee and the FSB are not commenting on the situation.
Earlier in Yekaterinburg, a 50-year-old maid was detained with mephedrone in her underwear.
