A Ural Airlines pilot, suspended from flying after the incident, appeared as an expert on a talk show.
A member of the crew of the Ural Airlines plane that in September 2023 landed with passengers in a field, and was subsequently suspended from flying for that, appeared as an expert on an NTV program.
Second pilot of the Ural Airlines plane Eduard Semenov took part in the program "Beyond the Edge." The episode was dedicated to people who survived various disasters, reports KP‑Yekaterinburg.
On the air, Eduard Semenov conducted a master class for airline passengers. He explained and demonstrated how to act in the event of a hard landing and how to evacuate the cabin correctly.
One of the rules is — do not try to evacuate with your suitcase.
"I'll say a scary thing — every suitcase a passenger takes is someone's life, because with every second the cabin smoke increases," said Eduard Semenov.
"Literally a few breaths and you can lose consciousness and be left in the plane."
The emergency landing of the aircraft operating the Sochi–Omsk flight occurred on the morning of September 12, 2023. There were 161 passengers and six crew members on board, including second pilot Eduard Semenov. As a result of the emergency landing no one died or was seriously injured, the publication reminds.
In the first hours after the landing, then‑governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev said that the pilots would be rewarded (as had happened earlier with another crew of the same airline that landed a plane in a cornfield in the Moscow region and were awarded the title Heroes of Russia and had their feat filmed). However, it was later established that the crew and passengers had to land in a field near Novosibirsk because of the pilots' miscalculations.
The air incident turned into a catastrophe for Eduard Semenov's flying career. According to the publication, he did not return to work as a pilot — in March this year the pilot was declared unfit for flying and left the airline, reports KP‑Yekaterinburg. The aircraft itself never flew again.
