The road accident that claimed the life of an 18‑year‑old girl who had come for the long weekend from Yekaterinburg occurred on Sunday, November 2, in the Alapaevsky District, the State Traffic Inspectorate of Russia for Sverdlovsk Oblast reports.
The cause of the accident was a 19‑year‑old young man who did not have a driver's license and who nevertheless got behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Aveo in a state of severe alcohol intoxication.
During the trip from the village of Nevyanskoye to the village of Butakova the driver lost control, left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned. Four people, including the driver, were hospitalized with injuries. Another passenger, an 18‑year‑old girl who had come from Yekaterinburg to visit, died in intensive care.
According to the traffic inspectors, part of the responsibility for the tragedy also lies with the friends who did not want to stop their drunk companion. “His friends, including the deceased, consciously took seats in the car, not attempting to prevent the trip. None of the passengers took the keys or reported it to the police,” the UGIBDD said in a statement.
None of the occupants were wearing seat belts, and were held administratively liable for that. A criminal case has been opened against the driver under Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The examination showed 0.438 mg/l of alcohol in the exhaled air. The investigation continues.
