Dozens of tons of contaminated apples were found in stores in Yekaterinburg.
Twenty tons of infected apples from the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic were delivered to stores in Yekaterinburg. The goods were allowed to be sold despite being a quarantine item, the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor reported.
"The presence of live adults of the California scale insect in the apples has been confirmed by laboratory testing conducted at the Yekaterinburg branch of 'VNIIZh'," the agency noted.
The batch was allowed to be sold because the infected fruits do not pose a serious danger; washing them thoroughly before consumption is sufficient. Earlier, a large batch (4.8 tons) of infected tomatoes and bitter peppers from Uzbekistan was discovered in Yekaterinburg.
