"So far it hasn't been stocked with fish." The Yekaterinburg mayor's office will repair the sewage system in a new building on Yevgeny Savkov Street.

      Head of Yekaterinburg Alexey Orlov has taken personal control of the situation with the sewage system in the building at 23/2 Evgeniya Savkova Street. The sewage pumping station is being modernized so that the pump operates properly.

      This week, on November 13, the mayor held an on-site meeting at the problem apartment building. Alexey Orlov said he met with local residents and the management company. Representatives of the district administration, the Housing and Utilities Department and Vodokanal also took part in the meeting.

      Because of malfunctions at the sewage pumping station (KNS), the building’s basement rooms are being flooded. Pump failures, in turn, are caused by household rubbish that gets into the pumping equipment. It was decided to modernize the pumping station and, in particular, to install an automatic raking (bar) screen to remove debris from the pumping equipment.

      “Until the new equipment is installed, Vodokanal specialists will monitor the pumps daily and carry out the necessary maintenance of the sewerage facilities,” reports the Telegram channel “Head of Yekaterinburg Alexey Orlov.”

      The operation of the pumping station on Evgeniya Savkova will be displayed around the clock at Vodokanal’s central dispatch center. If a malfunction occurs, the dispatcher will immediately see an emergency signal and pass the information to a specialized crew.

      As previously reported, the building in the Akademichesky district was commissioned in 2024. Almost immediately the new residents began complaining about a stench. Sewage was even flooding the children’s playground. Vodokanal had earlier said that responsibility for blockages lies with the management company, but they acknowledged the problem with rubbish.

      It should be noted that a day earlier, on November 12, news spread across Russia about a case in the city of Belovo in the Kemerovo region. There a resident of a building whose basement is constantly covered by a thick layer of water decided to raise carp in it. The problem could not be resolved for a long time: officials cited both pipe problems and groundwater. After a video appeared showing live fish swimming in the basement, officials promised the problem would be fixed by the end of the year.
