Relatives spoke about a woman from Sverdlovsk Oblast who took her own life after speaking with scammers.
In Asbest on November 15 a farewell was held for 37-year-old lab assistant Marina Shmykova, who tragically died after conversations with and being conned by telephone scammers.
Her body was found on the evening of November 12 near the Bodrost recreation center. According to preliminary information, the perpetrators may have gained access to her savings by hacking her personal account on the Gosuslugi portal.
As Marina’s friend told KP‑Yekaterinburg, police found correspondence with the alleged scammers on her phone. The day before the tragedy she had driven to Yekaterinburg by car but returned home by taxi. A note was found in her clothing, but relatives doubt the authenticity of the handwriting.
— She left by car and came back by taxi. The note was found in her down jacket — she had taken it off. The handwriting in the note looks suspiciously neat, unlike hers, — the acquaintance told the media.
Marina is survived by a 14-year-old son.
At the Iskra strength club, where Marina actively helped the team and took part in training, they expressed their condolences to her family:
— Marina Vadimovna was a loving mother, accompanied her son to competitions for many years and supported the club. We mourn and extend our sincere condolences to her son, parents, relatives, friends and colleagues.
Law enforcement authorities declined to comment on the circumstances of the incident at this time.
