A garbage truck collided with a passenger train on the Yekaterinburg–Chelyabinsk route; there is one fatality. The railway incident occurred in the Chelyabinsk Region on Tuesday, November 18.
According to the Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office, the accident happened at 12:30 local time at the 214th kilometer, picket 5, of the Esaulskaya–Ishalino section near Argayash. A truck carrying municipal solid waste and suburban train No. 7006 collided.
Preliminary data indicate the garbage truck entered the railway tracks on a red signal; the train driver applied emergency braking, but the collision could not be avoided.
The truck driver died in hospital; a passenger in the garbage truck is in serious condition, the press service of the Transport Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Ural Federal District reports. The train driver sustained cuts — the locomotive’s windshield was shattered by the impact.
