More than 100,000 tires. A dump of old tires is being cleared in Yekaterinburg.
An unauthorized dump of used tires that appeared on Chekhov Street will be cleared in the Zheleznodorozhny District of Yekaterinburg, the mayor's press service said.
Preliminary estimates indicate that more than 100,000 old tires have accumulated at the site. The owner of the plot has been issued an order to remove the waste within 30 days. If he fails to comply, the next step will be filing a lawsuit.
"We will recover the cleanup costs from the party responsible for creating the dump. For several years an irresponsible contractor did not send the tires for recycling, but dumped them into the railway right-of-way," explained Vitaly Pershin, head of the administration of the Zheleznodorozhny District of Yekaterinburg.
At present, the fine for dumping garbage in an unauthorized place is 5,000 rubles. A draft amendment to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation has been submitted to the State Duma that would allow the fine to be increased tenfold.
"If you notice a buildup of garbage, don't just walk by — report it via the Feedback Platform (Gosuslugi): you'll need to provide the address (you can attach geolocation) and, if possible, the volume of the waste. It would also be helpful to attach photographs," the city administration appealed to residents of Yekaterinburg.
