A migrant in the Urals was stripped of Russian citizenship for failing to register with the military enlistment office.
A decision to terminate Russian Federation citizenship has been issued in the Chelyabinsk Region for failure to fulfill the obligation of initial military registration, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Chelyabinsk Region reported on Tuesday.
The decision to terminate Russian citizenship was made in relation to a citizen born in 2004, who had previously been a citizen of a neighboring foreign state. The basis for the decision was the systematic failure to comply with federal legislation on military registration.
According to Article 10 of the Federal Law of March 28, 1998 No. 53-FZ "On Military Duty and Military Service," citizens subject to military registration are required to appear at the military commissariat within two weeks after acquiring Russian citizenship.
The decision to terminate citizenship was made in accordance with subparagraph "v" of paragraph 2 of part 1 of Article 22 of Federal Law No. 138-FZ of April 28, 2023 "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation," which provides for such a measure for failure to fulfill legal obligations related to citizenship.
"The young man pledged to be faithful to Russia, to conscientiously perform his civic duty, to observe the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the legislation of the Russian Federation, yet did not fulfill the obligation of initial military registration, which is a gross violation of the requirements of citizenship legislation," the agency said.
The foreign national must leave the country because the legal basis for his stay in the territory of the Russian Federation has ceased to exist — the Russian passport previously issued to him has been declared invalid.
Earlier in October it was reported that a scheme had been uncovered in which migrants obtained Russian citizenship for bribes through an employee of Police Precinct No. 12 in Yekaterinburg.
