A well-known hockey player has died in Yekaterinburg.
Veteran of Ural hockey, Master of Sport and first‑category referee Sergey Pechenin has died at the age of 74. A product of Sverdlovsk’s Yunost, he spent ten seasons as Avtomobilist’s goalkeeper, playing for the Sverdlovsk team in the 1970s and 1980s.
The club’s press service reported the athlete’s death.
“Sergey Alexandrovich played more than two hundred games in the Soviet championships. After ending his playing career, he continued to serve hockey as a referee, for many years officiating youth competitions and amateur team tournaments. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Sergey Alexandrovich Pechenin,” the club said.
In early November a 39‑year‑old amateur hockey player died in Yekaterinburg.
