A park named after surgeon Yuri Mansurov has opened in Yekaterinburg.
A square in the Leninsky district of Yekaterinburg has been named in honor of surgeon Yuri Mansurov. The corresponding decree was signed by the city’s head, Alexey Orlov, Kommersant-Ural reports, citing the city administration.
The square is located near the Druzhba Cultural and Leisure Center, between Akademika Bardina and Nachdiva Onufrieva streets. It has been given the name “Yuri Mansurov.”
As URA.RU previously reported, the proposal to name the square, which locals know as Druzhba Square, after Yuri Mansurov was made by city Duma deputy Dmitry Sergin. The doctor’s widow, Yulia Mansurova, agreed to the location.
The surgeon of City Clinical Hospital No. 1, Yuri Mansurov, died on June 24, 2020, in City Clinical Hospital No. 40. According to pathologists’ findings, the cause of death was a thromboembolism caused by the coronavirus. Mansurov was officially recognized as the first Sverdlovsk medical worker to die from the then-new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
In November 2020, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, posthumously awarded surgeon Yuri Mansurov the Pirogov Order.
