They will thin out the light canopy on Chelyabinsk's main pedestrian street.

Part of the light canopy on Chelyabinsk’s main pedestrian street, Kirov Street, is being dismantled. This was reported by the EAN news agency, citing the head of the Southern Urals’ capital, Alexey Loshkin, at a press conference.

“We thinned it out this year in the area of the tankmen’s monument to reduce the load on the supports and to solve the problem of image distortion from the surveillance cameras. In my view, this section has improved.

In the near future we will partially dismantle the light canopy on Kirovka and relocate it to other areas. We are now discussing what to keep and what to remove,” the mayor shared his upcoming plans.

The pedestrian part of Kirov Street needs updating, Alexey Loshkin added. He tasked his subordinates with studying the experience of other cities, EAN writes.

It is worth noting that the “feature” of Vaynera, Yekaterinburg’s main pedestrian street — Chelyabinsk’s rival — is a media screen, which not everyone likes either.

Judging by recent developments, the design of Vaynera Street has recently been handled by Sima‑Land, the company of businessman Andrey Simanovsky. The street itself has, for several years now, become a haven for marginalized people and, it seems, also needs a change of concept. The reconstruction of Vaynera Street is already planned for 2026.
