A resident of Artemovsky was punished for drifting near the Karnaval shopping center in Yekaterinburg.

      The State Traffic Inspectorate of Russia in Yekaterinburg has identified the driver who staged a drift near a pedestrian zone by a shopping center.

      A video showing a gross violation of traffic rules appeared online on November 25. In the recording, the driver of a VAZ performs dangerous maneuvers in the immediate vicinity of the shopping center’s pedestrian zone.

      Traffic police officers conducted an investigation and identified the driver. He was a 23‑year‑old resident of Artemovsky with two years of driving experience. He had previously been held administratively liable.

      “In the course of the inquiry the citizen admitted to committing the unlawful acts. In a preventive interview the offender explained that the purpose of the dangerous maneuvers was to impress his friends, and he did not think about the possible consequences for others,” reports the public relations unit of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yekaterinburg.

      Under Part 2 of Article 12.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (driving on bicycle or pedestrian paths or sidewalks in violation of traffic rules — note by Uralweb) the young man was issued an administrative fine.

      The State Traffic Inspectorate notes that using roads and adjacent areas to demonstrate dangerous maneuvers creates a real threat to citizens’ safety and is categorically prohibited by current legislation.

      “The agency systematically monitors the information space. All identified instances of dangerous driving, including materials posted in open sources, form the basis for conducting investigations and bringing those responsible to the liability established by law,” the agency added.
