In November, the most popular name among newborn boys in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra was Muhammad, and among girls — Anna. A month earlier the leading name was Amina, URA.RU reports, citing the portal of the regional registry office.
"The most popular name in November for newborn boys in KhMAO is Muhammad; 337 children were given that name," the agency's statistics show. Among girls the leading name was Anna — since the beginning of the year parents have named 197 newborns Anna.
Second place among girls went to Amina — 192 newborns were registered with that name.
The top three male names included Mikhail (248 newborns) and Alexander (213). Among girls, Sofia (178) and Vasilisa (161) were common.
As previously reported, Muhammad has been the most frequently given name to newborns in KhMAO not for just a month, or even just a year.
Thus, in 2024, 388 boys were named Muhammad; in 2023 — 348. Also in 2023 the most popular boys' names were Alexander (295 children) and Mikhail (271 children). Among girls' names the most popular in 2023 were Sofia (305 children) and Eva (241 children).
It should be noted that last summer the region was rocked by a scandal when one of the deputies of the local parliament claimed that Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra is the historical homeland of Uzbeks. The statement by a native of Azerbaijan caused such a stir that he was forced to leave the Russian Federation for his own homeland.
