Azerbaijani businessman Vidadi Mustafayev was detained in Yekaterinburg.

In Yekaterinburg, businessman Vidadi Mustafayev was detained; after the arrest of Shahin Shykhlinski he had declared himself the new leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Urals, URA.RU reports, citing its sources close to law enforcement agencies.

According to URA.RU’s interlocutors, the detention took place near a fitness club that Mustafayev had come to for a workout, with the support of special forces. Preliminary reports say searches are being conducted at Mustafayev’s home.

According to the agency’s sources, Mustafayev is suspected under Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (fraud) in land-related schemes; testimony against him was allegedly given by a former associate with whom they had a business dispute.

Vidadi Mustafayev began positioning himself as the new leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Urals after the arrest of businessman Shahin Shykhlinski for a crime from past years and for using violence against a special forces officer during his detention in the summer of this year. Mustafayev criticized Shykhlinski and urged Azerbaijanis living in the Urals not to behave provocatively.
