Two terrorists who escaped from Pretrial Detention Center No. 1 will be put on trial in Yekaterinburg.
Two residents of the region who were previously convicted of terrorism and escaped from Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 will be tried in Yekaterinburg, the Sverdlovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office reported on Tuesday.
The defendants, who had previously been sentenced by a court for an attempt to set fire to a military enlistment office, were being held at the Federal State Institution “Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region” in connection with the review of an appeal.
Having conspired together, they fashioned a lock pick to open the cell door and also procured other means to facilitate access to the premises. Thereafter, on the night of September 1, 2025, they escaped from custody.
While on the run and hiding in one of the gardening cooperatives near Yekaterinburg, the defendants, no later than September 7, 2025, damaged motion sensors and entered a residential house through a window. There they stole property worth more than 7,000 rubles, which they disposed of as they saw fit.
They have been charged under part 2 of Article 313 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (escape from custody committed by a person in pre-trial detention, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) and item “a” of part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code (theft by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, causing significant damage to a citizen, with unlawful entry into a dwelling).
The Yekaterinburg City Prosecutor’s Office approved the indictment and transferred the criminal case to the Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg for substantive consideration.
After the incident, the head of the pre-trial detention center was forced to resign. It was also reported that a criminal case on negligence had been opened.
