In Serov, more than 16,800 residents were left without heating due to an accident at a boiler house, the Sverdlovsk prosecutor’s office reported.
According to the agency, on December 24 a boiler at Boiler House No. 1 shut down because of an automatic control failure. As a result of the accident, the temperature of the heating medium fell in 338 apartment buildings, where more than 16,800 people live. At that time, the temperature in Serov dropped to −39 degrees.
In addition, heating was disrupted in 102 non-residential premises, in two schools and five kindergartens, and in a city hospital ward. At the time it was also reported that 49 patients were evacuated from the hospital’s therapeutic department. Two of the three boilers at the boiler house remained in operation; repair and restoration work is under way.
