In Yekaterinburg, a court has kept in pretrial detention a man who was stealing one-time payments from participants in the special military operation. Vasily Litovchenko is accused of extortion, the joint press service of the courts of Sverdlovsk Region reports.

According to the investigation, the accused, together with another suspect, in order to obtain a one-time payment of more than one million rubles, used violence to force people in need of money to sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence to perform military service. The money was subsequently stolen from the victims' bank accounts.

Litovchenko is charged under paragraph "b" of part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Extortion committed for the purpose of obtaining property on an especially large scale."

On Friday the Chkalovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg considered and granted the investigator's request to extend the defendant's pretrial detention in custody until 28 February 2026.
