      Police officers of the Railway District of Yekaterinburg detained a local “boss” suspected of a violent robbery against an employee of an order pickup point, the press office of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Yekaterinburg reports.

      On Wednesday, December 24, at about 14:30 on Angarskaya Street, located in the Staraya Sortirovka microdistrict, a drunken assailant approached an operator of an order pickup point for one of the marketplaces who was shoveling snow on the stoop. Threatening the man with a knife, he demanded money from the cash register, claiming that he had lived in the area for a long time and that everyone owed him.

      The pickup point employee refused the aggressive passerby, whereupon the attacker struck him with the handle of the knife. The marketplace worker ran into the pickup point and closed the entrance door behind him. Later he went to City Clinical Hospital No. 14, where he was diagnosed with a fracture of his right arm, and to Police Department No. 10 to file a report about the assault.

      A 29-year-old local resident has been detained by criminal investigation officers of Police Department No. 10 together with district officers on suspicion of the violent robbery. Notably, the man had no prior convictions.

      A criminal case has been opened against the suspect by the investigative division of the local police under Part 2 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (robbery committed with the use of a weapon or items used as weapons).

      The investigation is ongoing. The “boss” was detained under Article 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation. The question of imposing a preventive measure is being decided. The detainee faces up to ten years in prison.

      An administrative case has also been drawn up against the individual under Part 1 of Article 6.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation for refusing to undergo a medical examination for intoxication.
