Minus-40-degree frosts are returning to Sverdlovsk Oblast.
As soon as tomorrow, January 20, anomalous cold will return to Sverdlovsk Oblast. According to the Ural Hydrometeorological Center, by midweek temperatures of up to −43°C are expected in some places.
The Siberian cold will begin to move west, initially affecting the extreme north of the region, and on January 21, with the weakening influence of the cyclone, much of it. The strongest frosts of −32 to −37°C, locally down to −40 to −43°C, are expected on January 22–23, the weather station's website clarifies.
The drop in temperature is linked to a northern cyclone that will cover the European part of Russia on Tuesday, January 20. For the same reason, precipitation will persist in the Middle Urals, Ura.Ru reports. According to Gismeteo, frosts will arrive in Yekaterinburg on Wednesday, January 21. And the mercury will fall most sharply on January 22–23.
Earlier, meteorologists said that February in Sverdlovsk Oblast will be warmer than usual.
