Ural Airlines received 1.3 billion rubles for landing a plane in a field.

Ural Airlines received an insurance payout of about 1.3 billion rubles after an emergency landing of a plane in a wheat field in 2023. That amount turned out to be roughly 11 times higher than the damage investigators estimated at 119 million rubles.

Pilot Sergey Belov told 66.RU about the payout. According to him, after the incident the airline not only received the insurance money but also retained almost the entire aircraft—its parts can be used for repairs, which is especially important amid a shortage of original spare parts. The airline itself confirmed receiving the insurance compensation and said it has no claims for damages against Belov. At the same time, the former pilot was earlier charged with a criminal offense: the case alleging violations of air safety and aircraft operation rules was returned for further preliminary investigation. He could face up to two years in prison.

The aircraft, which was 19 years old at the time of the incident, was flying from Sochi to Omsk. Due to a hydraulic system failure and a shortage of fuel, the crew decided to make an emergency landing in the Novosibirsk Region. There were 161 passengers and four crew members on board. No one was injured.
