A resident of Yekaterinburg nearly died at the wheel from sunlight.
An accident with a victim occurred on Monday, March 23, on the Yekaterinburg - Serov highway, reports the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region.
The traffic accident involving two passenger cars took place at the 182nd kilometer of the road "Yekaterinburg - Serov" near Kushva.
Preliminary investigations established that a 42-year-old driver of a "Lada Priora," traveling from Kachkanar towards the regional center, crossed into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a "Chevrolet Aveo" moving towards Serov.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the "Lada Priora," a resident of Yekaterinburg with 20 years of driving experience, was taken to the Kushva hospital with injuries. The four passengers in the same vehicle, as well as the driver of the "Chevrolet Aveo," a 63-year-old resident of the village of Rebristy with 8 years of driving experience, did not require hospitalization.
The conducted examination showed that both drivers were sober. During the questioning, the driver of the "Lada Priora" explained that he was blinded by sunlight, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Administrative materials have been drawn up against the driver of the "Lada Priora" under part 4 of article 12.15 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (crossing into the oncoming lane), part 1 of article 12.2 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (driving a vehicle with unreadable state registration plates), and part 1 of article 12.5 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (driving a vehicle with malfunctions). An administrative case has been initiated under part 2 of article 12.24 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules resulting in moderate harm to health).
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate draws drivers' attention to the fact that bright sunlight, glare on wet asphalt, or dirty glass can cause temporary loss of control. In such conditions, it is necessary to reduce speed, use sunglasses, and be extremely attentive. Not matching speed to specific conditions significantly increases the risk of accidents with serious consequences.
