The square opposite the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic building has now received an official name, the press service of the Yekaterinburg city administration reported. The decision was made on Friday, March 27, by the toponymy commission led by the deputy mayor Rustam Galyamov.
Now the square opposite the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic building is named after the Soviet military counterintelligence officer, participant of the Great Patriotic War, Lieutenant General Ivan Ustinov, who was born in the Urals. Experts also approved the installation of a bust of Ivan Ustinov in the square. It will be located on the central axis of the alley.
The General Ustinov Square is a specially protected natural area (SPNA) of local significance and a monument of landscape architecture. It is home to 90 trees of 11 species (mostly apple trees), shrubs, and 22 species of wild herbaceous plants.
In addition, by the commission's decision, the park in the Akademichesky district has been officially named Preobrazhensky by the residents. Previously, the green area had an unofficial name.
