In Yekaterinburg's public transport, they want to abolish cash payments.
In Yekaterinburg, they plan to eliminate cash payments in public transport. This was announced by Nikolai Vakhlov, the deputy director of the city transport department, during the "Stand" program on Channel 4.
According to him, the authorities do not intend to raise the fare for buses, trolleybuses, and trams. Moreover, options are being considered that could make trips cheaper—primarily by encouraging cashless payments, including bank cards and the E-card.
The move away from cash is also related to the reduction in the number of conductors. Currently, drivers have to divert their attention to accepting payments, which affects road safety. The authorities intend to gradually transition to a completely cashless system, as has already been done in many other cities.
