The two-time Olympic champion in volleyball from Nizhny Tagil has passed away.
The celebrated Soviet volleyball player, two-time Olympic champion, and native of Nizhny Tagil, Roza Salikhova, passed away on March 26 at the age of 82, as reported by the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF).
Roza Salikhova was born in Nizhny Tagil in 1944. She began her professional sports career at "Uralochka." She played for the Sverdlovsk club until 1969, according to v-tagile.ru.
As part of the USSR national team, she became a two-time Olympic champion, winning at the Games in Mexico City (1968) and Munich (1972). She was a Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.
After her victorious Olympics in Mexico, she moved to Moscow's "Dynamo," where she became the champion of the USSR six times and the winner of the European Champions Cup seven times, as stated in the obituary.
In 2014, Roza Galyamovna Salikhova was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame (Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA).
