Stalinists were denied the renaming of part of a street in Yekaterinburg in honor of the leader.
The "Volunteer Alley" that appeared this spring in Yekaterinburg could have received a completely different name if the city administration had met the Georgian society "Sakartvelo" and the Stalin Center halfway. The latter proposed to install a bust of the leader there and name the pedestrian section of Mira Street in his honor. This was reported by 66.RU.
Supporters of his memory requested to agree on the installation of the bust of Generalissimo I.V. Stalin either opposite the Ural Federal University sports complex on Mira Street or near the intersection of Mira and Blukhera streets.
They also asked to name the pedestrian alley on Mira in his honor.
The organizers—the leadership of the Georgian society "Sakartvelo" and the Stalin Center—appealed to the chief architect of Yekaterinburg, Rustam Gabdrakhmanov, but they were told that they had already been outpaced, 66.RU reports.
The "Volunteer Center of the Sverdlovsk Region" requested to name the alley in honor of the volunteers. This was done in March. "Sakartvelo" was suggested to look for other locations for the installation of the monument.
Recall that earlier, in November 2025, the toponymy commission of the city administration removed the question of installing a bust of Joseph Stalin in Yekaterinburg from consideration. At that time, Stalinists had already proposed other locations for this purpose.
