Representatives of the Central Military District (CVD) command, together with artists from the CVD song and dance ensemble, congratulated World War II veteran Semyon Grigoryevich Blaginin on his 101st birthday.
The event took place at the Victory Square in Tavda, where the front-line soldier resides, the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region reported.
In honor of the hero's feat, a ceremonial march was held with the participation of the CVD honor guard company, children from patriotic organizations and clubs.
Words of gratitude and warm congratulations were expressed to Semyon Grigoryevich by representatives of the city military commissariat, government officials, public figures, employees, and veterans of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region, where the veteran worked during peacetime.
The celebration concluded with a concert by the artists of the CVD song and dance ensemble. During their performance, the choir group of the creative army team performed songs from the wartime and post-war years.
Semyon Grigoryevich Blaginin was born on April 23, 1925, in the village of Yagodnoye, Kargapolsky District, Kurgan Region. In 1930, his parents moved to the Nizhnetavdinsky District, to the village of Nizhnyaya Pristan. The family was large: three sons and three daughters. The Blaginin family was allocated housing in the commune—a small office building on the banks of the river.
When the Great Patriotic War began, Semyon, along with two friends, went to Omsk to enroll in a school that trained signalmen-telegraphers for the front. His friends were accepted, but Semyon was refused because he did not meet the age requirement. Through the registry office, he managed to obtain a certificate, adding two years to his age.
Thus, Semyon Grigoryevich enrolled in the signalmen school. After graduating, he was sent to Sverdlovsk for an internship at the Communication Node. During the internship, the signalmen laid lines to the city of Asbest.
S.G. Blaginin went to the front in November 1942 as a volunteer, being a 17-year-old boy at that time, and was immediately assigned to the 19th separate airborne brigade. Several times, on command assignments, Semyon Grigoryevich parachuted into the enemy's rear with a group of comrades.
In March 1944, all airborne brigades were united into the Ninth Guards Airborne Army and sent to Hungary for a breakthrough in the Balaton Lake area. Their task was to let tanks through and cut off infantry.
Powerful, elite fascist units fought against the Ninth Guards Airborne Army. Semyon Grigoryevich participated in the defeat of German tank groups in the Budapest area and on the approaches to Vienna, took part in battles for the capture of the capital of Austria—Vienna, liberated the city of St. Pölten, Székesfehérvár, Mor, and Zirec.
On the eve of his 101st birthday, the veteran was congratulated by former comrades and colleagues from the regional Federal Penitentiary Service.
