The widow of a Ural resident who died from a broken neck in a police car has won a million rubles from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The widow of Tagil resident Sergey Shamrin, who died in 2023 in a police service vehicle, has won a moral damages compensation lawsuit against the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports v-tagile.ru. The man was shoved headfirst into a service UAZ during transport to the station, and upon arrival, his already lifeless body was retrieved.
Tagil resident Sergey Shamrin passed away on January 29, 2023, after officers Maxim Onuchin and Pavel Gorshkov detained him for aggressive behavior outside a psychiatric hospital and took him to the station. The cause of death was a cervical vertebra fracture—the man was pushed into the vehicle headfirst.
The police officers were accused of exceeding their official powers. The decision of the Tagilstroy District Court on January 20, 2025, sentencing Onuchin to 4 years and 11 months in a general regime colony and Gorshkov to 5 years in a general regime colony was upheld by the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.
The claim for moral damages in the amount of 10 million rubles, filed by Sergey Shamrin's widow, Yulia, against the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, was partially satisfied by the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg in the amount of 1 million rubles, writes "KP-Yekaterinburg." However, the defendant filed an appeal, which has not yet been considered, and therefore, the money has not yet been paid to the widow from the state treasury.
Since then, the woman has faced another blow—her 20-year-old daughter, Anastasia, the daughter of Yulia and Sergey Shamrin, died in a high-profile car accident involving a Lexus on the night of July 8 last year.
