In Kamensk-Uralsky, a former electrician has been brought to trial for cable thefts, reports the press service of the Sverdlovsk region courts.
It was established that the defendant, Alexander Bushmanov, who previously worked as an electrician, from 2023 to August 2024, used his professional skills and tools (pliers, screwdriver, knife, and headlamp) to break into the basements of residential buildings at night, stealing copper cables and aluminum wires that supplied electricity to grocery stores, a pharmacy, and a funeral service office.
The criminal left the crime scenes unnoticed. At home, he burned the stolen metal and sold it at collection points. He spent the money earned at his discretion.
In the morning, the property owners restored the power supply at their own expense. Bushmanov visited some basements multiple times using the same scheme. During an attempt at another theft at night, he was caught in the basement by officers of the private security service who arrived due to the triggered alarm.
There are a total of 11 episodes of theft and 1 attempted theft in the case. The total damage caused to the entrepreneurs amounted to 48 thousand rubles.
The Krasnogorsk District Court of Kamensk-Uralsky found Bushmanov guilty under paragraph "b" of part 2 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Theft, with illegal entry into a premises or other storage) and part 3 of article 30, paragraph "b" of part 2 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. For the totality of crimes, by partially combining the sentences, he was sentenced to 430 hours of compulsory work (equivalent to 54 eight-hour working days - note from Uralweb.ru). The claims of the victims were satisfied in full. The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
