Sverdlovsk residents have started to get rid of coins en masse.
Residents of the Sverdlovsk region handed over nearly 4.7 tons of change during the spring campaign "Coin Week." The results of the campaign, which took place from April 6 to 18, were summarized by the Ural Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia.
Over two weeks, residents of Sverdlovsk brought about 1.2 million coins to banks and stores. The total amount of change handed in was 4.2 million rubles. Residents exchanged the money for larger bills or credited it to their bank accounts.
As noted by the press service of the Ural Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia, the total weight of the collected coins was comparable to the weight of four Lada Granta cars.
The most popular coins for exchange were those with a denomination of 10 rubles, which accounted for over 25% of the total amount. In second place were 10-kopek coins, making up about 20% of all the change handed in. Another 17% were coins worth 1 ruble.
The least frequently handed in were 25-ruble coins, with only 204 pieces brought in during the campaign.
