Athletes from across the country will run 2300 km through the Ural Mountains.

The Great Ural Trail has started in Russia - the first running relay along the route of the Great Ural Trail, which is considered the longest mountain route in the country and passes through several regions of the Ural Mountains. The first to hit the distance were project leaders Alexander Fefilov and Evgeny Kostylev. Over 50 days, participants will have to cover about 2300 kilometers - from Mount Polkovnik in the Orenburg region to the Dyatlov Pass in the north of the Sverdlovsk region. The relay involves 22 athletes. The route includes a total elevation gain of about 47 thousand meters, which is comparable to several ascents of the highest peaks in the world. Athletes will move in pairs, spending an average of 8 to 12 hours on the distance daily. Well-known representatives of the running community and ambassadors from the Ural regions have joined the project. One of the stages - from the border of the Chelyabinsk region to the village of Khrustalny in the Sverdlovsk region - will be run by public figure, ultramarathoner, and the youngest climber in Russia, Nikolai Konyukhov. Olympic Games 2006 medalist Ivan Alypov will also participate in the relay. About 880 kilometers of the route will pass through the Sverdlovsk region. Organizers note that the project is aimed not only at uniting athletes but also at showcasing the natural attractions of the Ural Mountains and promoting domestic tourism.
