A criminal case under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (performance of work or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for the life and health of consumers) has been initiated in Yekaterinburg after a fence fell on a passerby.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 27 in the area of Ryabinin Street. According to the investigation, the fence enclosing a construction site fell on a person. The victim was hospitalized, the prosecutor's office of the Sverdlovsk region reported.
The severity of the harm caused to the victim's health is being determined, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sverdlovsk region reports.
As part of the criminal case, investigators from the Investigative Committee of Russia examined the scene of the incident. Witnesses are being interrogated, and documentation related to the organization of safe construction work is being requested. "Other activities are being carried out, based on the results of which a proper legal assessment will be given to the incident," the Investigative Committee explained.
Recall that the day before, a hurricane wind was raging in the Sverdlovsk region and in Yekaterinburg, among others. More than 11,000 people in 16 municipalities were left without electricity. Meanwhile, Yekaterinburg residents shared photos and videos of the destruction on social networks. In particular, a video was published showing a young man being struck by a metal profile from the fence while crossing the roadway at the same location on Ryabinin Street.
