A child died in a crash in the Pyshminsky district while riding a Kugoo gifted by their parents.
A child died in the Sverdlovsk region after crashing on an electric scooter gifted by his parents. The tragedy occurred on the evening of June 12 in the Pyshminsky district, reported the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Russia.
The accident happened at 5:30 PM near a house on Lenin Street, 64 in the village of Trifonovo. According to preliminary data, an 11-year-old boy, riding a Kugoo E2 electric scooter, was moving along the roadway of Lenin Street.
Lacking the necessary skills to operate the scooter and sufficient muscle strength, the child lost control and overturned the vehicle. There were no passive safety features on it.
With injuries, the boy was taken by his parents to the Pyshminskaya Central District Hospital, where he later died.
The scene was examined by an investigative operational group. Witnesses and the child's legal representatives were interviewed. The vehicle was seized.
It was established that the electric scooter was gifted to the boy by his parents this year. The power of this electric scooter exceeds 250 W. To operate it, one must have a category "M" driver's license, which the minor did not possess. The parents were aware of the inadmissibility of the child operating the electric scooter.
The materials will be sent to the juvenile affairs department to address the issue of holding the parents administratively responsible under Article 5.35 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (failure to fulfill duties for the maintenance and upbringing of minors), as well as to the education authorities for conducting a commission inspection and enhancing prevention in the institution.
"Before purchasing an electric scooter, unicycle, hoverboard, or other means of individual mobility for a child, make sure that their age, physical abilities, skills, and possession of a driver's license meet the requirements of the traffic rules.
Operating a powerful scooter (over 250 W) on the roadway requires a category "M" license and an age of at least 16 years. Movement on public roads with any SIM is only permitted from the age of 14," the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reminded parents.
